Day 28 – Creating a Vision Board for Your Next Adventure: A Blueprint for Manifesting Your Travel Dreams
Day 28 of Our 30-Day Journey to a More Balanced Life
Hello, inspired travelers and dream-weavers! We are just a few days away from the end of our incredible 30-day challenge. We’ve gone from the fundamentals of personal finance to the secrets of travel hacking, and from the logistics of a travel and finance master list to the emotional work of post-trip wellness. Each step has been about building a more intentional, integrated, and fulfilling life.
Today, on Day 28, we’re taking a step back from the spreadsheets and the logistics to tap into the very thing that fuels all our adventures: our dreams. Weโre going to talk about creating a vision board for your next adventure.
For some, the idea of a vision board might sound a little bit “woo-woo,” but I can assure you it is a powerful tool. Itโs not magic; itโs psychology. A vision board is a physical or digital collage of images, quotes, and affirmations that visually represent your goals and desires. By placing your travel dreams front and center, you are not just wishing for them; you are activating your mind’s ability to recognize opportunities and stay motivated to achieve them. It’s about turning a vague hope (“I want to travel more”) into a tangible, emotionally resonant goal (“I am standing in front of the Colosseum in Rome”).
When I was first dreaming of living and working remotely, I started with a simple notebook. I pasted pictures of laptops on beaches and coffee shops in foreign cities. That simple act of visualization was the spark that eventually led me to a life of travel and remote work. Today, I use a more refined version of that initial process, and I want to share my blueprint with you.

The “Why” Behind the Board: More Than Just a Pretty Picture
Before we dive into the “how,” let’s understand the profound benefits of this practice:
- Clarity and Intention: A vision board forces you to move past vague ideas and get specific. Do you want to see the Northern Lights? Or do you want to feel the crisp arctic air on your skin while you watch the aurora dance over a remote cabin in Finland? The board helps you define not just where you want to go, but how you want to feel when you get there.
- Motivation and Focus: In the daily grind, itโs easy to forget why youโre working so hard and saving so diligently. A vision board, placed somewhere you see it every day, is a constant, positive reminder of your goals. Itโs a powerful source of motivation to make that extra effort at work or to stick to your travel budget.
- The Power of Visualization: Our brains are wired to respond to visual cues. Regularly looking at your vision board activates your reticular activating system (RAS), a part of your brain that filters information. When you “tell” your RAS that a trip to Bali is important, it will start to notice opportunities, articles, and deals related to Bali that you might have otherwise overlooked.
- Emotional Connection: The images on your board aren’t just pictures; they’re emotional anchors. A picture of a bustling Indian market can evoke feelings of curiosity and excitement. A serene image of a mountain lake can evoke feelings of peace and calm. By connecting emotionally to your travel dreams, you make them more real and more compelling.
My Blueprint for Creating a Vision Board (Physical or Digital)
Whether youโre a hands-on, cut-and-paste type of person or a digital-first creator, this blueprint works for both.
Step 1: The Brainstorming & Intention-Setting Phase
This is the most crucial part. Before you touch a single image, grab a notebook and a pen and answer these questions:
- Where do I want to go? Don’t hold back. List every destination that excites you, from a weekend trip to a nearby hill station to a month-long backpacking adventure across Southeast Asia.
- What kind of experiences do I crave? Is it adventure (hiking, scuba diving), relaxation (beach retreats, wellness resorts), cultural immersion (cooking classes, language schools), or something else entirely?
- How do I want to feel? This is the emotional core of your vision board. Do you want to feel a sense of freedom, peace, excitement, connection, or a profound sense of awe?
- What is my travel timeline? Is this a short-term goal (next 12 months) or a long-term aspiration (next 5 years)?
By getting this all out on paper, you’ve already started the work of turning a dream into a plan.

Step 2: The Gathering & Curation Phase
Now for the fun part: gathering the visuals!
- For a Physical Vision Board:
- Materials: A large corkboard or poster board, glue, scissors, and push pins.
- Sources: Old travel magazines, brochures, postcards, your own past travel photos that you love, and even printouts of stunning photos from Pinterest or travel blogs. Don’t forget to look for inspiring words and quotes as well.
- For a Digital Vision Board:
- Platforms: Canva is my top choice for digital boards. It has a massive library of templates and stock photos. Pinterest is also an excellent tool for gathering images and organizing them into different boards (e.g., “India Travel Dreams,” “Europe Trip 2025”).
- Sources: High-quality photos from websites like Unsplash or Pexels, inspirational quotes, and digital cutouts from other sources.
When you’re gathering images, look for things that resonate deeply with you. Don’t just pick a picture of a famous monument; choose one that makes you feel something.
Step 3: The Assembly & Personalization Phase
This is where you bring everything together.
- Arrangement: Before you glue or pin anything down, lay out all your images. Group similar themes together. Maybe one section is for a specific destination, while another is for the feeling of adventure. Don’t be afraid to overlap and create a dynamic, artistic collage.
- Add Personal Touches: Write your name on a little mock passport or a boarding pass with your dream destination. Include a small photo of yourself. This is an important step to make the vision board about you and your journey, not just a collection of pretty places.
- Incorporate Practical Elements: To connect your dreams to our discussions on finance and planning, add some practical elements. This could be a small note with a savings goal, a picture of a credit card you want to get for travel rewards, or a specific timeline. This turns the vision board from a dream into an “action board.”
The Post-Creation Ritual: Making Your Board a Reality
A vision board is not a magical talisman you hang up and forget. It’s a tool that requires engagement.
- Place it Strategically: Put your board in a place you see every single day. Above your desk, on your bedroom wall, or as the wallpaper on your phone. The consistent visual reminder is what keeps your goals in your subconscious mind.
- Engage with It Daily: Take 5 minutes each day to look at your board. Don’t just glance at it; actively engage with it. Imagine yourself in those places. What does the air feel like? What does the food taste like? How do you feel? This practice of visualization is the most potent part of the process.
- Take Aligned Action: This is the most important part. Your vision board is the “why,” but your actions are the “how.” Use your inspiration to take concrete steps. Book a trip to a local destination to practice traveling, or start a side gig to save money for your adventure. Research your travel destinations and start making the kind of meticulous plans we discussed on Day 27.
- Be Flexible and Update It: Your travel dreams may evolve. Don’t be afraid to take down old photos and add new ones as your interests change. A vision board is a living, breathing document of your aspirations.
The act of creating a vision board is a powerful act of self-care and personal development. Itโs an investment in your mental well-being, your motivation, and ultimately, your happiness. By intentionally visualizing your next adventure, you are already on your way to experiencing it.
Your Day 28 Challenge: Start Your Vision Board!
For Day 28 of our 30-day challenge, let’s get creative:
- Reflect and Write: Grab a notebook and answer the brainstorming questions from Step 1. Get clear on your travel dreams.
- Gather Images: Even if itโs just 5-10 images from Pinterest or an old magazine, start gathering the visuals that inspire you.
- Create a Digital or Physical Space: Start a Pinterest board, a Canva document, or even just a folder on your desktop with your chosen images. If youโre feeling ambitious, get a corkboard and some magazines and get started on a physical board!
Share one destination or one feeling you’re excited to put on your vision board in the comments below! Letโs inspire each other to dream bigger.
Join us tomorrow for Day 29, as we begin to wrap up this incredible journey of self-discovery and growth!
